Junior School Students Become Sun Safe Superstars!
Last Friday, the Junior School’s Grade 6 Pathways to People leaders organized and facilitated a Strides for Sun Safety Walk. This walk involved all of the students and faculty of the Junior School. Students and teachers wore blue clothing and donated a toonie to the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund. Pathways members led each JS class through the five S’s of Sun Safety: Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide!

Students slapped on their hats and headed out by class to the junior yard. Once outside, students applied sunscreen from our CDS sunscreen dispensers (in Ms. Collins’s memory), ensuring that exposed skin was protected. Students also wore UV bead necklaces that they had made during their Outdoor Education classes so they could see the changing colours of their beads when exposed to UV rays. Lastly, students wore sunglasses donated by the Pasquali family (graduates Luke ‘17, Julian ‘19 and Isabella ‘22) to protect their eyes.
Once ready, our Grade 6 students led the way into the Back 40 walking through the trails until reaching Ms. Collins’s Talking Circle. Here they paused to remember Ms. Collins and donated their toonie. The Junior School students raised over $1000 to donate to the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund.
We thank all those involved in this special day and hope you will remember to be Sun Safe and Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide when you’re outside!
Land Acknowledgment
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates.
