Spotlight on Nutrition: A Visit from Registered Dietitian Clare

By Julie Axford
By Julie Axford

We were thrilled to welcome Registered Dietitian Clare on-site for a dynamic, food-focused event with our students last week!

Watermelon Radish Tasting Demo
Clare kicked off her visit with a colorful and flavorful tasting of watermelon radishes. Students had the chance to sample this crunchy, nutrient-rich vegetable while learning about its health benefits and simple preparation methods. It was a fun, hands-on way to explore seasonal eating and tried something new and earned a sticker for trying something new!
Get Ready for University With Me
Following the tasting, Clare led an engaging session tailored for our Grade 12 students preparing for university life. She shared practical advice on how eating habits might change in a post-secondary environment, and offered tips for maintaining balance, making smart food choices, and planning meals on a budget.

Stir-Fry Skills in Action
To wrap up the day, Clare led a practical kitchen session focused on cutting techniques, cleaning and sanitizing, and preparing a fresh stir-fry from scratch. Students gained confidence with essential kitchen tools and learned how simple, healthy meals can be both accessible and delicious.

We’re grateful to Clare for bringing energy, expertise, and practical tips to our students as they prepare for the next stage of their journeys!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
