Middle/Senior School Athletic Assembly Recap

On Monday, we recognized our student athletes and celebrated all three terms of athletics at the MS/SS Spring Athletic Assembly. Individual team awards, major athletic recognitions, and CISAA plaques were presented with sports commentary provided by our GY co-anchors Diya Mangat and Jack Brown.
In her closing remarks, Athletic Director Ms. Winterink congratulated all of our student athletes on a fantastic Term 3 and year in sports. She shared these thoughts, “Over the years, I’ve watched countless athletes begin their journeys in one sport, only to discover a new passion elsewhere. One athlete many teachers and students will remember is Claire Gallagher ‘18. Claire arrived at CDS as a hockey and soccer player, but while here she took a chance and joined the rugby team. Claire is now playing rugby at the national level—for Team Canada. That transformation began right here, because she said yes to something new….Being open to new experiences helps you grow, connect, and thrive—in sport, and far beyond."

The following is a list of some of the major award winners who were honoured on Monday. A complete list will appear in the 2024 Annual Report next fall:

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
