From Charlottetown to King: A Morning of Music and Friendship

Last week, CDS welcomed 70 Senior School Music students and faculty from Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown, PEI, for a morning of music and friendship. As part of a tour through the Greater Toronto Area—which included professional clinics and several live performances—the group selected CDS as their featured school visit to explore Ontario’s music curriculum.
Accompanied by their Principal and members of their Music Faculty, the visiting musicians were met with a "red carpet" welcome from Mr. Shields and the CDS Music Department. Members of the CDS Concert and Jazz Bands joined their PEI counterparts for an immersive clinic in the Paul C. Duckett Theatre, culminating in separate performances by both schools.

The visit was highlighted by a serendipitous "small world" moment when Ms. Lara Gee, a teacher in the CDS Junior School, discovered students from her alma mater were in the building and stopped by to share her personal connection. The morning concluded with a celebratory lunch in the Dining Hall, leaving both schools enriched by new friendships and the shared power of musical interaction.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
