CDS Excels at DECA Internationals

Last month, six standout Country Day School students journeyed to Atlanta, Georgia, to compete on the global stage at the DECA International Career Development Conference—an elite gathering of 25,000 students representing the top 5% of student qualifiers worldwide.
In a display of exceptional business acumen, our three CDS teams navigated high-stakes competition among fields of 200–250 international challengers in each of their events. Grade 10 students Sophie Yuan and Yolanda Sun demonstrated remarkable poise by qualifying in the rigorous Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making (BTDM) category. Meanwhile, Grade 12 students Mariella Tsiolis and Sienna Dell’Elce showcased their vision in the International Business Plan (IBP) category, and our Grade 11 team of Lukas Speranza and Michael Polygenis competed in the complex Portfolio Management Community Giving (PMCG) category.

The pinnacle of the trip came when Michael and Lukas secured 2nd place overall, outperforming the world's top young innovators to  bring home a historic win. This is an extraordinary achievement that reflects the dedication and talent of our entire DECA contingent.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
