This past weekend, three Senior School students participated in the annual International Independent Schools’ Public Speaking Championships held at The York School in Toronto.
The competition involved more than 140 participants from 10 different countries, and it took place over the course of four days, with each student participating in three different events, from a choice of nine.
Deanna Tzanis (Grade 12) finished in the Top 10 in Dramatic Interpretation, Shanee Moran (Grade 10) was a Finalist in After Dinner Speaking, finishing fourth. Olivia Railton (Grade 11) was a Finalist in Parliamentary Debating, Dramatic Interpretation and Persuasive Speaking, and her stellar scores throughout the weekend assured her place as Top Speaker Overall in the competition.
Former CDS Debater, Lukas Weese ’14, came out to support the team and Ms. Wyndham-West as a judge last weekend. Lukas is pursuing a double major in Global Health and International Relations at the University of Toronto’s Trinity College.
Congratulations to all three competitors on an excellent performance.
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
