I attended CDS from 1972-74 for Grades 7 and 8 and remember CDS in the early 70s as a magical multi-age community. I think we all felt happy to be part of a new adventure, surrounded by wonderful teachers like Miss Scott and Mr. Taylor who encouraged us to respect ourselves, navigate by the Golden Rule, and challenge the curiosity within. And there was always lots of laughter!
Having our father, John Pratt, as the first Headmaster only really meant that people knew how my younger sister, Jennifer, and I got to school and why we volunteered to take the newborn lab rats home for Christmas break. In those days, our father floated in and out of all the classrooms wearing every possible hat, from changing light bulbs and singing choral verses, to opening thermoses and presenting awards of merit.

Land Acknowledgment
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
