Retirement Announcements

Earlier this week, John Liggett informed the community about Director staffing updates for 2021/2022, including news that Joanne Belch, Susan Scott and Sheldon Rose will be retiring at the end of the school year.

We will also be saying goodbye to two beloved teachers in the Junior School: Lori Pella and Suzan Lyn.
Lori Pella has been at CDS for 31 years. Many may not know that Madame Pella started her CDS career in the Senior School where she was the first Head of French and introduced the Saint Donat French immersion trip to SS students more than 30 years ago! With the addition of Spanish to the curriculum, Madame Pella became Head of Modern Languages and continued to promote the importance of cultural immersion with the School’s first Canada-France Exchange in 1995. Shortly after she introduced the innovative and effective AIM (Accelerative Integrated Method) to CDS in 2002, she was asked to serve as Head of French in the Junior School, where she has been a cherished and beloved faculty member ever since.

Suzan Lyn has been at CDS for 19 years, and in the teaching profession for more than 30. She will be remembered for her legendary role in our primary education classes, most recently in Senior Kindergarten. The creativity and enthusiasm Mrs. Lyn brings to her classroom and productions, including the Kindergarten Musicals and annual Chinese New Year's Celebrations, illustrate the immense joy she has for her profession. As a lifelong learner, Mrs. Lyn has always been passionate about teaching young children and would seek professional development on an ongoing basis. No doubt she will continue to do so in retirement!

Once again, please join us in a resounding set of congratulations and best wishes to this fine group of CDS veterans!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
