Lasting Memories from Temagami Canoe Trips

Earlier this month, two groups of Senior School students headed north for the annual Temagami Canoe Trip. Group A traveled from September 6-10, followed by Group B from September 10-14. While some students used the experience to fulfill the Adventurous Journey component of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, for all it was a chance to build their skills, teamwork, and reconnect with nature.
Over the course of five days, students camped on islands, pitched their own tents and practiced essential wilderness skills such as chopping wood, sawing, and even felling small trees. A big part of the trip was time on the water, where students developed confidence in both paddling and sterning. Some groups also took on the challenge of portaging between lakes as well. Outside of canoeing, there was time for fishing and sharing campfire stories.

The Temagami trip encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones, take on challenges, and support each other. A special thank you to the Camp Temagami team and our teachers for making this trip unforgettable.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
