Grade 3 Takes an Imaginative Journey to Québec City

Last Friday, the Grade 3 students undertook an imaginative and immersive virtual field trip to Québec City—all within the walls of their French classroom! This simulated journey was designed to help students fully connect with their current class play, which features a character named Marie who lives in the historic capital.

The adventure began by "traveling" from school to Union Station, followed by an imaginary VIA Rail train ride to Québec. Once "there," the students virtually explored the city's most significant sights, including the magnificent Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, the historic Plaines d’Abraham, the Parliament Building, and La Citadelle. They also took a "walk" along the bustling Grande Allée.
A highlight of the simulation was the practical application of their French skills. Students participated in a simulated stop at a restaurant, where they practiced ordering meals en français from a menu, and an imaginary shopping excursion at a gift shop. Through this interactive experience, students learned about the various symbols of Québec and compared them to those of Ontario.

The innovative virtual trip was a tremendous success, allowing students to experience the culture and geography of Québec City firsthand without leaving the school. After a long and fun day of intensive learning, all students returned "home" safely, having thoroughly enjoyed their adventure!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
