In April 2025, 81 students from Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 wrote the annual Canada-wide Mathematica contests.
  • Grade 3: CDS ranked 12th out of 190 schools
  • Grade 4:CDS ranked 19th out of 298 schools
  • Grade 5: CDS ranked 13th out of 398 schools
  • Grade 6: CDS ranked 33 out of 405 schools
Those are very impressive results and they indicate that we have some very dedicated and talented mathematicians in the Junior School!

In Grade 3, we had 13 mathematicians write the Thales contest. The National average score was 15.7 out of 30 which shows just how challenging this test is. Our Grade 3 Thales contest winner was Leo Wang.

In Grade 4, 21 students wrote the Byron Germain contest. It was a challenging test with a Canadian average score of only 18.4 out of a possible 30. This year we had 2 students Skye Liu and Havey Wu tie for the top school award.

In Grade 5, we had 19 students write the Fibonacci math contest. The National average score  was  only 24.98 /40. Our school Fibonacci champion, Ezra Leung, is also a National champion because he scored perfectly on the test. What an amazing accomplishment!

And in Grade 6, we had 28 students write the Pythagoras contest. The winner of this contest was Wesley Bianchi.

Congratulations again to everyone who worked so hard to prepare for these contests.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
