Chain of Gratitude Connecting the Junior School

By Ms. Suddaby

It has been a truly special month in the Junior School as we collectively explored and celebrated the character trait of Gratitude.

At the beginning of the month, students in 4S presented at the Junior School assembly and introduced a special challenge to the entire Junior School: to help construct a massive Chain of Gratitude. Their goal was to create a visible and meaningful symbol of all the wonderful things for which we are thankful.
The response from every grade level was exceptional. It was deeply moving to witness the breadth and sincerity of the students’ reflections on the blessings in their lives. Link after link was added to the chain, each one representing a genuine expression of thanks—for family, friends, teachers, favourite books, sunny days, and so much more.

As the Chain of Gratitude stretched through the halls, it became a striking reminder of the empathy, generosity, and shared appreciation that characterize our community. This initiative not only deepened students’ understanding of thankfulness, but also celebrated the many meaningful connections that unite us. A sincere thank you to the students in 4S for leading this initiative and inspiring us all to take notice of the good that surrounds us each day.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
