On the Catwalk Struts its Way to Success!

Congratulations to all of the Middle and Senior School students who were involved in the sixth annual CDS charity fashion show On the Catwalk.
All of the students deserve an enormous thank you for making the show work, especially since they did it all on top of their academic and extracurricular responsibilities. Particular thanks go to the student leaders. Coordinators Lindsay Reddick and Maxime Weiss, under the tutelage of Jordyn Stafford, managed the entire project and worked with all the other student leaders. Special thanks to: choreographers Mia Policaro and Anastasia Kolotova; back-stage and booth chiefs Eleni Kalergis and Naheeda Rajmohamed and their team; emcees Josh Wilson and James Simmonds, whose wit and humour enhanced the flow of the show; student band Lancaster Rose and musical performance by James Simmonds, Alan Guldimann, Josh Wilson and Greg Kustka-Tsimbidis; Aqua Beauty Salon who donated their hair and makeup artists, and Paola Faiella who prepared the incredibly tasty preshow hors d'œuvres. Also, a special thanks to Mr. Marchessault and Miss Maguire who gave up evenings and weekends to support the show.

Clothing was donated by: Grafic, Injoy, Lemonberry Girls and Pearls, Want Boutique, Crossings, Trend, Flipside, Tinge Boutique, The One and Only Clothing Store, Old Navy, Tuxedo Royale and Over the Rainbow. Students arranged for all donations and then coordinated, choreographed and produced the show. Over 130 students modeled and an additional 23 worked as the backstage and atrium crew.

The money raised this year is going to Free The Children. This charity is especially close to our hearts, because in March of 2013, our school is sending a group of 29 students on a service trip to Kenya as a part of a Free the Children initiative. The funds raised at this year’s On the Catwalk will be going directly toward a building project in the community where our students will be working.

Thank you to all of the students and teacher volunteers who made this year’s event such an overwhelming success. A huge thank you goes to the CDS families who donated prizes, food and their time, especially those who came and watched the show! Click here, to view more photos from the show.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
