Faculty Advisor: Geneva Winterink, Melissa Rutledge
The Inclusivity Club is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community at CDS and also a space for non-LGBTQ+ students and teachers to learn about and understand issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ community. With student members from Grades 9 through 12, the club aims to educate the CDS community on topics that concern the LGBTQ+ community and destigmatize the LGBTQ+ community within CDS.
The club is planning to share a presentation and video designed to encourage students to discuss, reflect on and understand the harm of stereotypes. A guest speaker will also talk about his experience of being closeted at an all-boys school and offer general advice to people in similar positions, as well as to allies.
“I want to help provide a safe space for students in our LGBTQ+ community and their allies. As a member of the community myself, I hope that my participation sets a positive example for students to be their true selves.” Geneva Winterink, Faculty Advisor
“I want to see long-lasting education about LGBTQ+ issues within the CDS community and long-term change as well.” Chelsea Mao ’22, Student Coordinator
“I want to influence our school culture. I want to be an ally and I want the school to be more inclusive.” Joshua Simmonds ’09 and SS faculty member
