Technology and Education

The CDS Approach

The Country Day School is committed to offering a superior educational experience that is sensitive to the needs of each student, enables learning, and equips students for life.

Central to this academic vision is preparing our students to adapt and thrive in the complex technology and information-driven culture that marks the modern age.

The general skills and aptitudes at which our learners will need to excel are well documented and include, most importantly, critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, as well as a range of functional skills in information, communications and media literacy.

The essential role of educational technology at CDS is to improve student learning. When technology serves to enhance the attainment of learning expectations, it is highly encouraged, readily available, fully supported and integrated into our programs.
In keeping with our academic mandate to offer a balanced, differentiated and student-centered approach to teaching and learning, we employ a wide variety of communication and technology strategies, hardware platforms and software applications, selecting the best method for the specific purposes at hand.

We continue to explore and evaluate emerging technologies, especially those that emphasize digital citizenship, literacy, critical thinking, sound judgment, and managing change. We also believe in proceeding judiciously through a policy of considered use in which we devote the necessary time and research to our decision-making processes to ensure that the technologies we select are a benefit to the process of improving student learning.

We are firm believers in the value of our students cultivating skill in navigating both the analog and the digital world, the world of connectedness and disconnectedness, to leverage the power of both toward the fulfillment and enrichment of the whole student. This is the embodiment of the philosophy of Technology with Balance.
The essential role of educational technology at CDS is to improve student learning.
