This past weekend, 12 students travelled to Branksome Hall in Toronto to participate in the annual Nora McRae Public Speaking competition. Students have been working hard for months writing and memorizing speeches as well as practicing readings and impromptu speaking to prepare for this competition. For many of our junior competitors in Grades 7-10 this was their very first time competing in a tournament. Additionally, this year's Nora McRae saw one of the largest pools of competitors in years with over 60 students from various schools participating.
In the Junior division, highlights include top 10 finishes in the Persuasive Speaking category from Adhya Chandradat, Mina Matsui, Aara Ko and Charlotte Griffin. Both Adhya and Mina also placed in the top 10 in the Impromptu category. Aara Ko won 1st place in the Declamation category with Oakley Stephenson placing in the top 10.
In the Senior division, Audrey Jiang ‘26 placed 3rd in the Impromptu category and won 3rd place overall.
The coaches are so proud of everyone for their hard work preparing and competing at Nora McRae. Congratulations to all!
Please watch for updates from the Junior National Public Speaking and Debating competition which takes place this weekend in Vancouver, BC. Three junior students, Charlize Bianchi, Isla Gunning and Lucas Juhasz will be travelling there to compete later this week. We wish them the very best of luck!
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
