If you are serious about applying to a US university next year, we are hosting the Preliminary SAT (PSAT), on Tuesday, October 21, beginning at 8:30 am sharp.
The PSAT is a standardized digital test that provides first-hand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test. The results from the PSAT are reported to you and CDS but are not part of any formal application to any university. There are many ways to practice and prepare for the SAT; the PSAT is just one. In the past many students who wrote the PSAT in grade 10 moved directly forward to the SAT in their grade 11 year.
The SAT is one of two standardized tests (the ACT is the other) available to high school students applying to the US. Many US schools are still "Test Optional" or "Test Free" but some popular destinations have returned to requiring a standardized test.
Canadian universities do not expect an SAT or ACT from Canadian students.
The full test administration takes approximately 3 hours. The test is fully digital and once you have enrolled you will receive detailed instructions on technology requirements. Although a digital test it must be taken under supervision here at the school.
If you are interested in writing the PSAT with accommodations (i.e. extra time), there is a form you will need to complete and get signed by a parent/guardian. This form has to be submitted in person or by email to me by September 2.
Please fill out this form to indicate your commitment to write the PSAT. Spaces are limited and first-come first-served. Please come by the English Office or send me an email if you have questions.
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
