French Week in the Junior School: A Celebration of Culture and Fun!

By Madame O’Rourke et Madame Racine

From April 22nd to April 25th, we joyfully celebrated la semaine du français in the Junior School. As soon as we entered the dining hall, the delightful aromas of classic French cuisine greeted us, transforming lunchtime into a culinary adventure.
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly our famous French assembly with our special guest in attendance- Madame Pella! Our confident and charming Grade 6 MCs, Aarav Kumar and Alice Khromov, led us through the assembly entirely in French. We were treated to a heartwarming performance by our youngest learners, who sang a beautiful song in French, followed by an impressive rap video created by our Grade 3 to Grade 6 students.
Adding to the inspiration were two talented Grade 12 students, Diviya Amarnath '25 and Millie Steinmann '25, who shared their passion for the French language through engaging talks. Their stories and experiences not only showcased the beauty of learning a new language but also ignited curiosity among our younger students to explore it further.

A special shout-out goes to our incredible Grade 4 performers—Mackenzie D'Angelo Gill, Dylan Sepiashivilli, Charles Drake, Danielle Ni, Henry Gunning, and Stephan Gao—who brought the stage to life with their captivating play, La poule maboule! Their hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm made it a truly memorable experience for the entire school community.

Overall, French Week was a wonderful celebration of culture, community, and creativity. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this week so special! Merci!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
