Junior School Celebrates Spring Term & Athletes of the Year
On Tuesday, the Junior School recognized the accomplishments of our third term athletes and coaches and reflected on what a great year it has been in Junior School sports. This term, the Grade 4-6 students participated in Boys Slow-Pitch Softball, Girls Softball, and Co-ed Track and Field.
Junior School Athletic Director, Jenny Cooper, shared these reflections on the spring season: “It has been such a pleasure being part of our athletics program this season. I get so much joy out of watching you practice, share laughs with your teammates, come racing through the hallways because you are so excited to practise (we won’t tell Mrs. Wildberger), watching you compete and seeing you enjoy your experience in sport…I am so happy so many of you are getting to enjoy the many positives that sports have to offer.”
She and Mrs. Wildberger then presented the four annual awards.
The male and female Athlete of the Year awards are presented annually to the athletes who best demonstrated leadership, sportsmanship, commitment to the CDS program, and athletic excellence throughout the school year.
Male Athlete of the Year - Manny Qian and Taiki Thacker
Female Athlete of the Year - Anna Pitts
The male and female sportsmanship awards are presented annually to the athletes who best demonstrated team spirit, a positive attitude, and conformance to the rules, spirit, and etiquette of their sport. They are all fantastic ambassadors for our school.
Male Sportsmanship of the Year - Aarav Kumar and Roan Skilja
Female Sportsmanship of the Year - Olivia Pasquino
In closing, our amazing MCs, Mason Strgacic and Stella Gougoulias, offered this parting advice: “We hope that you all stay active this summer. Join a team, throw and catch with a frisbee, play volleyball, skip, go for a bike ride, swim, run or play soccer and we challenge everyone in the audience to join a team next year. There are lots of options to choose from - softball, track, cross country, soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, badminton. We promise, you won’t regret it!"
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
