The Country Day School campus is already buzzing with activity – though we’re still missing the most important component of all: our students! We are counting down the days until they arrive next week.
As shared in our Summer Mailing, we are delighted to welcome a number of exceptional new faculty members to our community this year. You’ll be introduced to them in next week’s Backpack. In addition, our Middle School, Student Services Centre, Community Relations Office and Robotics Lab have undergone impressive refreshes. We will share photos next week of all of these venues in action.
This week, our faculty engaged in professional development that included a review of our Run/Hide/Defend safety protocols, a workshop on Digital Literacy in the Age of AI, time for department planning and student information sharing, and of course, plenty of opportunities to reconnect and prepare classrooms for the year ahead.
Despite this summer’s relentless heat and a recent micro-burst that brought hail and high winds to King City, our campus is ready for opening day: the Performing Arts Centre roof has been repaired, fallen trees cleared, and our new driveway banners are set to be installed the weekend after school begins.
We wish you a wonderful Labour Day weekend and look forward to welcoming everyone back for the First Day of School Wednesday, September 3rd, capped off with our Welcome Back BBQ at 2:30 p.m. on Hawksworth Field for the entire family.
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
