First Term MS/SS Athletic Assembly Recap

Monday’s MS/SS Athletic Assembly reminded us of what a powerful role sports play in bringing our community together. Whether we’re cheering from the gym, the sidelines, or the stands, that shared pride and energy is one of the things that makes CDS special.

As the Director of Athletics Ms. Winterink said in her remarks, our athletes played with heart, resilience, and integrity—lifting each other up, representing their school with pride, and showing what it truly means to compete for something bigger than yourself.
Highlights of the assembly included our fantastic GY CDS Sports Desk commentators: Gurshan Sidana, Mariella Tsiolis and Kiran Chaudhry, the spokespersons from each of our fall teams, and of course, our keynote speaker Sienna Dell'Elce, a remarkable student-athlete and CDS lifer who leads with character, passion, and an unwavering commitment to her teammates and school.

Congratulations to all our first-term athletes across all three schools, you made us proud! We are excited for what’s ahead this term and next. Go Cyclones!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
