By Chloe Ma, Grade 6
By Chloe Ma, Grade 6

Last Thursday, select students in Grades 4 to 8 competed in the 28th annual Optimist Club of Aurora Chess tournament. All students who attended competed with a positive attitude, great sportsmanship and displayed excellent skills.

It was impressive to see how supportive and dedicated all of the participants were.
We are incredibly proud that over half of the attending students qualified for the Ontario Championships in May. Congratulations to Isidore Leung, Liam MacDonald, William Li, Clyde Gau, Ezra Leung, Leo Wang and Jacob Jin.

We are also delighted to share that Arthur Meng earned a 3rd place trophy in the Grade 6 division and Jake Xu finished first winning the tournament for his division. Both Arthur and Jake also qualified for the Ontario championships.

Finally, a huge congratulations to the following students who capably represented CDS: Adrian Cheng, Chelsea Le, Emma Lepp, Stella Xu, Alec MacDonald and Victoria Pruna

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
