Earlier this week, the Grade 6 students were lucky enough to have Christian Mitri ‘16, an Investment Advisor for TD Wealth, lead a discussion on financial literacy. We learned about the benefits and pitfalls of using different forms of payment from credit cards and loans to cash and debit cards. He spoke about the power of compounding over time and how wise it was to start investing early.
The students were curious about how to determine if a company was a wise investment and what some of the best strategies were to grow their money. Anaya loved hearing about "His career path and how he overcame difficulties." She especially liked his message to "take the good from experiences and leave the bad behind.'" Juliana said she learned a lot about "why one payment method is chosen over another and that using a credit card to pay has benefits - as long as you pay it off each month."

The students would like to thank Mrs. Romanowich for helping to facilitate Christian's visit. He spoke with the Grade 10 Careers students during his visit as well. When she asked if they would come back when they were grown up to speak to them about their careers. His answer was a resounding yes!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
