CDS Teacher Recognized for 10+ Years of Duke of Ed Service

A few weeks ago, Ms. Heather Castellan was recognized by the Duke of Edinburgh program for her 10-year milestone as an Award Leader.

For more than a decade, she has helped young people discover their potential through encouragement and mentorship as CDS’s school coordinator. She has run lunch drop in sessions and organized adventurous journey opportunities to meet the requirements, including signing student books and monitoring their progress for years!
From trips to Temagami, Algonquin and Bruce Peninsula, Ms. Castellan has led by example by helping students develop their full potential and achieve their dreams while completing this well-respected international award.

According to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards program, this milestone recognizes her continued commitment to youth development, but also the lasting relationships and positive change she’s helped cultivate.

Thank you Ms. Castellan for 10 years of service to The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and for all you’ve done to help our young people thrive.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
