This winter marked an exciting milestone for CDS Athletics as we launched our very first Swim Team. Over the past four months, our swimmers demonstrated commitment, perseverance and growth. Tough sets, lots of bus rides and countless laps paid off in tremendous improvement across both our Middle and Senior School teams.
At the Senior School CISAA Championships on February 23rd, our athletes rose to the occasion. An impressive 10 out of 26 swims were personal best times, which is a remarkable achievement at this level of competition. Yolanda Sun, Ian Cai, Tedrick Lu, and Cooper Smith each earned top-20 finishes in at least one event. Jonathan Helman delivered an outstanding performance, capturing silver in the 100 IM, 4th in the 100 Breaststroke, and 5th in the 200 Freestyle.
The momentum continued at the Middle School CISAA Championships on February 24th. Every single CDS swimmer achieved at least one personal best time, with an incredible 35 out of 41 swims marking new personal records. MJ Lee earned 2nd place in the 100 IM and 4th in the 50 Fly, while Liam Macdonald placed 3rd in the 100 Free and 4th in the 50 Breast. Our Grade 7 Boys secured 6th place in the 4x50 Free Relay. We also celebrated multiple top-20 finishes from swimmers including Will Lambakis, Jerry Liu, and Nayan Kukreja, along with top-10 performances from Taiki Thacker, Ason Yu, and the Grade 8 Boys Relay team.
Beyond the results, this season was about dedication, teamwork and a willingness to push beyond comfort zones. We are incredibly proud of this inaugural team and are already looking forward to continuing to build and grow both our Middle and Senior School swim programs next season.
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
