Hayley Cone '02

Fulfilling Career Dream with Confidence

Excerpt from Fall 2014 issue of The Link:

Hayley Cone ’02 attended Acadia University for two years and played university rugby. She quickly came to the realization that nothing was holding her interest academically and decided to come home and work for her father, a show jumper/equestrian in King.

“School was never really my thing,” Hayley confesses. “I didn’t care because I was an athlete.” She credits her time at CDS, and Mr. Sherman in particular, as her math teacher and rugby coach, for teaching her that being an athlete is not the only thing that will get you through life.

At 24, Hayley was in the process of relocating to British Columbia where she could play rugby and train year round. A frequent shopper at Lululemon in Newmarket, she was approached by the store manager about working there.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
