CDS Students are Turning Heads

Congratulations are definitely in order for several of our students this week!

Georgie Tsiolis
and Jack MacDonald recently qualified to represent CDS at the Senior Provincial Debating Championships to be held this weekend in Toronto. At this tourney, they will take part in six rounds of debate, and the top teams overall will travel to Newfoundland in April to compete in the CSDF National Championships. Good luck!

The Senior Concert Band, Middle School Concert Band and Grade 6 Band performed very well and impressed the adjudicators at the Ontario Band Festival last Monday. The Senior Concert Band walked away with a Gold Medal Standing and a Brass Excellence Award; the Middle School Concert Band received a Silver Medal Standing and a Rising Star Award; and the Grade 6 Band received a Silver Medal Standing and Spirit of the Festival Award!

A big congratulations to all of our 23 DECA participants who competed among 7,500 high school students in the DECA Provincial Championships in Toronto last week. The following students made Top 10 in their event during that Provincial Competition: Kabir Walia, Vipul Gupta, Kiyan Heybati, Kosta Tzanopoulos-Tzanis, Isabella Giancola and Daya Gosal. Only 4% of competitors actually qualify to represent Team Ontario in Atlanta, Georgia, and this year those students are Kabir, Vipul, Kiyan and Kosta.

Congratulations!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
