CDS Head of Music and Students Shine at CISMF

More than 1,500 students from 47 CIS Ontario schools participated in last Sunday’s Conference of Independent Schools Music Festival (CISMF) at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.

Among them were 55 CDS students, including three soloists (Gabrielle Goudie ’18, Nick Adams ’18 and Kabir Walia ’19, and Grade 8 student, Doris Hua, who performed alongside high school students in the String Orchestra). Students auditioned for CISMF in November and have spent countless hours preparing ever since.

As well, our very own Head of Music, Nancy Promane, was awarded this year’s CISMF Leadership in School Music Award by her independent school colleagues for her 25-year commitment to music (15 years as Instrumental Coordinator for CISMF) and ”deep respect for her student musicians and the desire to develop the best within them.”

Congratulations to all of our music students and teachers who put forth a magnificent performance Sunday!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
