Traffic Light Update: It's a Go!

John Liggett, Head of School
It looks like our new Traffic Light will become reality on Tuesday, December 18 right after drop off!

Hydro One provided connection of our new service yesterday, and the contractor will have York Regional Police on site for traffic control during the activation next Tuesday. The temporary line painting is to be completed by Monday, December 17.
Of course, all changes come with their share of adjustments. While in theory, this traffic light is supposed to make the entering from and exiting onto Dufferin Street during drop off and pick up safer for all, we must remain mindful of a few things:

  1. Our new traffic light is not an invitation to look at your phone while waiting for the light to turn green;
  2. There is a trigger embedded in the pavement under the mouth of our driveway that will prompt the light to change – please ensure you are on it if/when at the front of the line;
  3. It will take some time before people get used to the light, so please remain patient and vigilant about looking when turning onto Dufferin. I ask that you discuss this with your young drivers as well;
  4. Let’s be as considerate of one another as possible as we adjust to this exciting change – so that we can arrive and exit CDS as safely as possible!
Just one more week to go until the Holiday Break, let’s make it a safe one!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
