The highest level of high school volleyball in Ontario is represented at OFSAA and the road to get there is a hard one to pave for all teams. At the end of a long season, the Sr. Girls' team secured a spot as an ‘A’ school competing against ‘AAA’ schools at OFSAA just before March Break. This was the first time CDS has ever sent a volleyball team to OFSAA – so our girls were part of history, albeit complete underdogs who were not expected to be competitive. We wouldn’t have it any other way!
Our Senior Girls’ team owned the mindset that every team they played was going to have to earn every point in order to win. All the matches were close battles and we even surprised the #1 seed (eventual Champions; Saunders High School) who we came to compete.
There was some ‘March Madness’ happening and CDS came close to knocking out some top teams. Prior to the season, we had set goals as individuals and as a team to truly understand what the girls wanted out of this season and for the coaches to provide those opportunities for them to find success. Achieving your goals is great, but the process and journey that goes into those goals is what allows strong characteristics and life skills to prevail, which is even more important then the actual outcome.
These girls displayed true growth and developed characteristics that will stay with them for the rest of their life. That’s the beauty of sport and the bigger picture. When coaches, parents, and teachers get to see how a student athlete has shown growth, there is nothing more rewarding. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments!
