Congrats to our Fulford & Jr. National Debaters!

Last month, three students represented CDS at the Spring Fulford Debate held at Ridley College. Grade 9 students, Tomas Chacin and Danyal Hakeem finished in 4th and 5th placed respectively in the Junior Division, winning coveted citations, and Grade 11 student, Georgie Tsioliswas 11th overall in the Senior Division. Well done, boys!
And last weekend, Grade 9 students Danyal Hakeem and Arjun Walia, and Grade 7 student, Sarah Croxon travelled to Vancouver to represent Ontario at the Junior National Public Speaking and Debating Championships at West Point Grey Academy.

Arjun was a Finalist in Impromptu Speaking finishing in 6th place and performed well in the Interpretive Reading category; Sarah narrowly missed Finals in Persuasive Speaking with her speech on the disproportionate number of indigenous children in Canada’s foster care system, and Danyal impressed with his speech on the dangers of vaping.

Congratulations on an excellent weekend!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
