Mr. Liggett shared the very sad news earlier this week that Mr. Walter Davison, a beloved CDS teacher for 24 years and former Director of the Middle School, had passed away of natural causes on June 15.
To say that our faculty, alumni, past and current parents were positively impacted by Walter’s spirit and dedication over the years would be an understatement. None of us will ever forget him.
This week our Alumni Facebook page overflowed with heartfelt tributes to Mr. Davison. Here is one that captured his essence for those who may not have known him:
"Mr. D was always there for all of us. Whether it be his unwavering encouragement and support in class, his self-created phrases like "Grissom clean" for cleaning beakers, or singing and playing the guitar to all of us students - he never failed to bring a smile to our faces. Try to fathom the love that must be present in one's heart for a person to always go out of their way to print out and gift every photo he took.
From being my rock when thousands of miles overseas in Kenya at 15, or celebrating with me after my CDS graduation at 18, Mr. D's presence made the hallways feel like home. He made the scariest and nerve-racking trips seem conquerable, the most stressful and anxiety-inducing exams seem manageable and made the rainiest of days, sunny. He even inspired me to share words of wisdom on a whiteboard overlooking the old Senior School foyer in 2014/2015 and taught me lessons that I carry with me every day. The world has suffered an irreplaceable loss. May this man, so beloved and respected by all, so kind and warm-hearted, rest in peace. He will forever be missed, and will always live on in our hearts.
Mr. D, I truly wish I had thanked you enough when I had the chance. I hope you knew just how much we all love you." - Raeesa R. '15
