Alumna Presents to SS Students on Food Security

This morning, the Senior School students were treated to a virtual presentation by Roxy Cohen a CDS alumna from the Class of 2009. As one of the founding members of the CDS Environmental Club and a top debater, she is passionate about the world around her and shared her enthusiasm with our students through this video.
Today, Roxy is working on her PhD of Education at York University; has spearheaded the creation of a climate leadership learning certificate program for youth ages 13-29 that is funded by the David Suzuki Foundation; and has spent the last five years volunteering with the St. James Town Community Co-Op in Toronto to support resident led food initiatives.

In her 25-minute presentation she shares what she has learned about food security (pre and post-COVID) through her years of volunteering and what they are doing at the St. James Town Community Co-Op to ensure food security for their residents.

We hope our students were inspired by what Roxy had to share and remember to contribute to the SS Holiday Drive by paying it forward to their Grade's selected charity - the deadline is tomorrow. #payitforward

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
