A Discussion on Diversity & Inclusion with Tamara Estabrooks - Feb. 22
Please join us for an informative discussion on Diversity & Inclusion featuring CDS parent Tamara Estabrooks on Monday, February 22nd at 10:00 am on Zoom. This is a free webinar open to CDS parents, friends and family members. We will share the link with you on Sunday for you to pass along.
A Speech-Language Pathologist by profession, Tamara is also the author of Perfectly Peach, a children's book she co-authored 10 years ago. She and her friend Vicky created this book in response to some of the questions their children were asking about colour, race and acceptance. Their ultimate goal was to bring colour to all children's lives and make them feel accepted and loved for who they are.
“This book is as relevant as ever today,” explains Tammy. Recently, one of her daughter’s teachers from her previous school reached out to let them know the book has helped her start difficult conversations with her students.
Ever since the issue of racism started dominating the headlines last spring, Tammy has been asked to appear on numerous panel discussions by her alma mater, Western University, whereupon she has shared some of her personal experiences with racism as a child growing up in the Maritimes.
Her decision to reprint the book in honour of their 10 year anniversary, also aligned beautifully with Crayola Crayon's launch of a multi-cultural skin tone pack so that children around the world can now choose the proper shade in which to colour themselves. Packets of these crayons were the perfect accompaniment to the Perfectly Peach colouring contest Tamara sponsored last fall in the Junior School.

Land Acknowledgment
