Campus Sunscreen Stations Fulfill Ms. Collins' Wish

Last September marked the one-year anniversary of the passing of a dear teacher, colleague and friend, Ms. Steph Collins.
Not a day goes by that we aren't reminded of Ms. Collins' beautiful spirit and smile. It could be prompted by a simple glance at the newly named Ms. Collins' Talking Circle, a walk by the Outdoor Ed gathering spot behind the Junior School gym, or a stroll down the ramp to Middle School alongside the Outdoor Ed classroom. Memories of her leading our little explorers in her green or blue-checkered jacket abound.

One of Ms. Collins' dreams was to bring sunscreen stations to our campus for our students and faculty. After she passed away, our community honoured her by making donations in her memory to The David Cornfield Melanoma Fund (DCMF). This partnership with DCMF, along with the generosity of our community, has meant that CDS has been able to set up six sunscreen stations around our campus.

Tomorrow is a non-uniform day and the theme in the Junior School is jersey day. We are asking JS students to bring in a Toonie to support The David Cornfield Melanoma Fund and encourage you to visit www.dcmf.ca to learn more about sun safety and melanoma research today.

Yes, Ms. Collins’ spirit continues to live on in our hearts, as does her lasting legacy throughout our campus.
