CDS Alumnus Introduces Grade 6s to Financial Literacy

This week, our Grade 6s had a very special visitor, Jose Torrealba. Jose is currently in his 4th year of a five-year program at Western University where he is pursuing a double major in Business and Computer Science at the Richard Ivey School of Business. As a CDS alumnus, he introduced himself by showing a picture of his graduating class from 2017 and went on to speak to the Grade 6s about Financial Literacy.
They learned about the importance of thinking through purchases and the different ways to buy items. Jose taught us about the impact of using credit cards instead of our own money to make purchases and about the value of setting financial goals and spending wisely. The students found the presentation and discussion fascinating and had a lot of questions as they thought about the impact of money in their lives.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
