Three Students Compete at OFSAA for X-Country

Denise Steadman
Last Saturday, 1108 of the best cross-country runners from 208 schools in Ontario gathered to compete at the OFSAA XC Championships at Lakefield College School. It was great to see all the athletes competing once again, after a two-year hiatus.
Reese Falkenberg ’23Cole Sheppard ’24 and Shayan Heybati ’22 arrived at LCS fit, focused and ready to put forth their best effort. All three sprinted to the finish, after completing 5 or 6km. There was a Nike flag by their store at the Championships that read, “Finish on empty”. This is exactly what Reese, Cole and Shayan did at the Championships. Reese placed 105th overall in Junior Girls, Cole placed 68th in Junior Boys, and Shayan placed 78th overall in the Senior Boys' category.
Although Reese did not set a new PB, she was very close and enjoyed the experience of running at her first OFSAA Championship. Both Cole and Shayan achieved their goals which were to run faster than at the CISAA Championships, and as a result, set new PB’s. They also relished the opportunity to compete at their first OFSAA Championship.
Congratulations on finishing your season so well! You truly made me, your fellow teammates and the CDS community proud.
Thank you Shayan for your leadership this season. You will be missed next year, but we wish you all the best with your future running aspirations.
They all enjoyed the experience to run with such an elite group of athletes on such a beautiful day.
