The Junior School’s philanthropic group, Pathways to People, has been busy this term! Pathways to People is comprised of 23 Grade 6 students who are dedicated to giving back and making a difference in their community. This term, students have led many different initiatives.
In the Fall, Pathways to People organized a food drive for the King Township Food Bank where each cohort was responsible for bringing in a specific food item. The Junior School donated $2400 worth of food. This is a new record for The Country Day School!
Pathways to People spent a lot of time making posters to advertise the monthly non-uniform days which supported a local charity, The Welcome Table. This charity organizes weekly dinners on Wednesday evenings to people who need a warm meal and a listening ear. The non-uniform days raised more than $1000!
Most recently, Pathways to People collected books for the return of the much-anticipated Book and Treat Sale. Each cohort was invited to shop for gently used books graciously donated by our CDS families. The sale raised $2307 for our three local charities: Leeder Place, Rose of Sharon and York Hills Centre for Children, Youth and Families. Pathways to People will use this money to buy gift cards to support families this holiday season.
It is with the support of our Junior School families that Pathways to People’s initiatives have been so successful this term. We are very grateful for your continued support during these trying times.
