New Safety Officer on Campus

You may have noticed a new addition to the CDS family - our new “Safety Officer” Ms. Lasalette Mendes. This is a proactive pilot project the school is experimenting with this year. As the immediate area around the school continues to develop, along with the increased traffic and complexity of our own campus, we are adding this additional layer of support in order to help maintain the safe experience on our school property that we all enjoy.
The associated duties with this position primarily involve being outside and having the first point of interface for any visitors (such as deliveries or visiting teams) as they arrive on campus. Additionally, our Safety Officer will assist with directions for campus visitors and safe vehicular and pedestrian flow, particularly at the entrance to Hawksworth field and the new Junior School lot.

Ms. Mendes started last week and will be formally introduced to our students at upcoming assemblies. Please welcome Ms. Mendes, or “La La” as our Junior School students call her, with a friendly wave the next time you see her.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
