Last month, CDS had the immense privilege of hosting three accomplished doctors who imparted invaluable knowledge to our Grade 8 students. The workshop, led by a cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Kapila, and dentists, Dr. Reyhani and Dr. Bianchi, focused on essential life-saving skills like CPR and provided a deep dive into the intricacies of the cardiovascular system.
Dr. Kapila demonstrated the proper techniques, stressing the importance of quick and effective action in emergency situations. Students had the opportunity to practice on mannequins, gaining hands-on experience under the guidance of seasoned professionals. They were able to mimic an emergency situation with AED simulators and responsive mannequins.
As well, a few days beforehand, Dr. Kapila was also able to come into the Health Science Club (HSC) in the Senior School to instruct CPR to its members. This approach not only demystified the process of CPR but also empowered our students with a potentially life-saving skill.
Thanks to the hard work of some Senior School students from the HSC, the workshop ran smoothly. We extend a huge thank you to Dr. Reyhani, Dr. Bianchi and Dr. Kapila’s dedication to ensuring that every student felt confident in their ability to respond to an emergency situation and to our community.
CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
