Grade 7 Students Learn How to Make Ratatouille

Charlize Bianchi '29 & Arya Kapila '29
Salut tout le monde! Hi everyone! This month, the Grade 7s have put their French skills to the test, working on their second unit of the year, Ratatouille. Watching the animated, lighthearted movie, Ratatouille, they had a fun time learning and practicing new vocabulary in the classroom.
To conclude the end of a fun-filled unit on December 15th, all four Grade 7 classes met in the dining hall to put their culinary skills to the test. With a fantastic tutorial done by Chef Richard and help from the rest of the dining hall staff, working in groups, the Grade 7s prepared none other than the famous dish from Paris - Ratatouille!

A meal made with a special sauce, seasonings, sliced tomatoes, eggplant and zucchini, the Ratatouille is a traditional French dish that dates back to the 18th century. Originating in Provence, France, the Ratatouille is a traditional stew made with summer vegetables. After their exciting experience in the dining hall, students had a chance to taste their delicious creations. Students had a phenomenal time doing this unique project. Bon appétit!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
