National Shakespeare Youth Festival

The Shakespeare in Action National Shakespeare Festival took place at Central Commerce Collegiate Institute in Toronto on Saturday, May 12th.
A talented group of CDS students participated in two workshops on acting and stage design, and were then required to perform a scene from Hamlet in front of a team of judges. CDS also watched students from other schools in addition to professional actors perform scenes from Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet.

The students received the top award in the acting category. Congratulations to grade 10 students Alexandra Gruspier, Jai Singh and Lukas Weese, grade 11 student Megan Lavis, and graduating year students Kelsey Houston and Ilana Khanin, on receiving the Shakespeare School of the Year Award! Ms. Bevacqua-Tirone also shined as she received the Shakespeare Teacher of the Year Award!

Congratulations to everyone on this fantastic result!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
