Mr. John Liggett, Head of School

Ex-Officio Member of the Board
Member of all Board Committees

John was appointed Head of The Country Day School in 2011 and is the proud CDS parent of Joshua (Class of 2015) and Aiden (Class of 2021).
John Liggett holds an Honours BA and a B.Ed. from York University, and began his teaching career in the 1990s with the Toronto District School Board. After completing his MBA from the Schulich School of Business, and then working in the private sector for a few years, he moved into the independent school system, first serving St. Clement’s School in Toronto and St. Michaels University School (SMUS) in Victoria, B.C., before joining CDS.

Mr. Liggett believes that great schools exist not only by maintaining strong academic standards, but also by broadening the sights of education, by meeting the needs of a variety of learners, and by engaging the whole student.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
