Brothers Finish 1st & 2nd in CISAA Jr. Boys’ Golf Championship
It was a battle between the brothers last month at the CISAA Jr. Boys’ Golf Championship at Woodington Lakes Golf Course in Tottenham. Alex Wyndham-West, a Grade 9 student at CDS, won the U16 Division gold medal with a round of 76, beating his older brother James (Grade 10), last year’s gold medalist, by one stroke.
It’s not the first time Alex beat his brother, he won the first tournament of the CISAA season as well.
Alex, a naturally gifted athlete, started playing golf when he was eight years old. He competed for the first time at a Maple Leaf Junior Tour event in 2012 and finished 2nd in the 11-13 age category.
His coach at CDS, Jim Petropolous, is complimentary of Alex’s overall game. “His game is good; it’s an all-around game. He can hit the tee shot; he is capable of hitting the fairway woods, irons and putting. All around, he has shown this year that he is quite capable of playing a good game of golf. I’d love to see him now take it to the next level and continue to improve.”
The CDS team of Alex, James, Thomas Russell and Alex Sward finished a strong second. Congratulations to all of them, especially Alex and James for their 1st and 2nd CISAA finish!
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
Founded in 1972, The Country Day School is a co-educational private school offering programs in JK-12 and located on 100 acres north of Toronto in King.
