Grade 12s Come Full Circle

As my 14 years at CDS are quickly coming to an end, I can say with one-hundred percent certainty that it was an outstanding school to go to. When the Writer’s Craft class read their story books to the Grade 1 class last week, it reminded me how lucky I was to grow up in such an amazing school.

It is funny to think that 12 years ago, I was sitting in the same spot as the Grade 1s, excited to hear the older kids read me their story books. It was delightful to be able to interact with the younger kids, and I now feel like I have come full circle at CDS. I still remember being intimidated by the GYs, mainly because of their size. I remember thinking how old they were, and how Grade 12 seemed so far away.

Last week, when I sat down with the kids I took a trip down memory lane. I wondered if the Grade 1 class thought the same about me; if I looked big and scary to them. As I read my book to the eager kids, I could not stop thinking how it seemed like only yesterday that I was in their seat listening to someone older read to me.

I am grateful to have had this experience because it reminded me that time passes so quickly, and we must treasure these special moments in life.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
