Grade 5 Students Take on Glen Bernard Camp

Last week, the Grade 5 students packed into a bus and headed north to Glen Bernard Camp. For a lot of us, this was our first real trip away from home, and the excitement was obvious.
When we arrived, the action began. We hiked in the forest and paddled canoes and kayaks on the beautiful lake. We challenged our comfort level climbing in the high-ropes course and cooperated with our classmates to complete elements in the low ropes course. We learned about the energy conservation techniques that the camp has in place and went on a tour of a tiny home and a green roof. We learned all about composting toilets, daylighting systems and solar panels. We were excited to stay in cabins with our classmates.

The three days flew by so quickly that most of us wanted to stay for longer. This was a great way to start our school year. Congratulations Grade 5s, you were wonderful ambassadors for CDS!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
