SS & MS Schools Launch Year with Virtual Assemblies

A new first for the Middle and Senior Schools this week was to stream the first two assemblies of the year into the SS and MS classrooms.
Ms. Bland and Mr. Liggett hosted a virtual Back to School Assembly Wednesday morning, welcoming SS students back after six long months. Mr. Liggett shared how happy he is to have everyone back and introduced our new faculty members. Ms. Bland then addressed the new health and safety protocols, the importance of having seating plans, and a few more details about lunch and moving around the building.

Ms. Bland ended the assembly with a favourite quote of one of our former teachers, Mr. Walter Davison, a dear friend and colleague who passed away in June.

She shared that kindness was the foundation of everything Mr. D did, and that he would often quote the Dalai Lama, "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." Something to keep in mind as we start this year.

Meanwhile, in today's Middle School Assembly, also held on Google Meet, Grade 7 and 8 students listened to several different presentations, including one on the Importance of Sleep by Mrs. Taylor and another on Middle School Email Etiquette by Ms. Weening.

Mr. Waldron then spoke about the importance of why they are all here and what their goals are for the coming year. Finally, members of 7B shared their personal words to start the year with, which now appear on a mural in the MS hallway, including preparedness, patience and grit.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
