GYs & Grade 11s Invited to a Virtual Uni Tour

Our GYs and Grade 11 students have been invited to join Mr. Huckvale and a number of other SS faculty members and Alumni for a premier CDS event - the first-ever virtual University Tour to be held on Tuesday, March 2 at 4:00 pm.
Of course, in a normal year, our Grade 12 students would have already taken part in our annual East-West University Tour trips held each fall, where they are given a choice of exploring either the Eastern options (Queen’s, Carleton, Ottawa, McGill and Concordia) or Western choices (Waterloo, Guelph, McMaster, Western and Wilfrid Laurier) over a whirlwind three day bus trip.

This year of course, we opted to do something a little different in keeping with COVID safety protocols. Application deadlines have now come and gone, but as our GYs start to receive their acceptances over the coming weeks and our Grade 11s start to look ahead to next year, we thought it might be a nice time for them to hear from a few CDS graduates from each institution about their personal experiences. Mr. Huckvale and our SS faculty are trying to replicate the same friendly welcome and information sharing that our alumni are known for showing when they would step off the bus in Kingston or London.

After a brief opening introduction, Mr. Huckvale will open separate breakout rooms for Queen’s, Ottawa, Carleton, McGill, Western (including Huron), Laurier, Guelph, Waterloo, McMaster and UofT. A handful of our alumni who are now attending these schools will be in each room ready to share their individual thoughts about their university. The style of the event will be informal and there will be a teacher/staff guide in each room to help facilitate.

We hope to see as many members of our GY and Grade 11 classes next Tuesday after school on Zoom! The link has already been sent to their gx emails, and a reminder will be circulated on Tuesday.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
