Middle School Language Week

Mme Marshall & Mme Ah Sen
At the end of April, the Middle Schoolers challenged their creativity and knowledge of the French culture in a hands-on, culture-exploring week. The Grade 7s were tasked with creating a representation of the French culture from all around the world - la francophonie, while the Grade 8s were invited to recreate a famous monument in France. The creativity was magnifique!

The critical thinking skills continued into the second challenge, with Grade 7s practicing their visualization skills and Grade 8s using their teamwork skills. The Grade 7s listened along to blindly recreate Vincent Van Gogh’s painting La chambre de Van Gogh à Arles en 1888. Having not seen the painting before, the students were required to use their listening skills and ability to conceptualize spatially in order to recreate this painting. Look at the talent that sprouted!

Finally, the Grade 8s had a more daunting task in front of them as they had to work together in pods to escape France! Completing a digital breakout room, the Grade 8’s problem solved and treasure hunted together in order to discover more about the French culture and break the code.

This year’s digital version of Language Week was a success in the Middle School and we are so grateful for the hard work and creativity our Middle Schoolers put into their work. Bravo, tout le monde!

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
