Democracy is Alive and Well at CDS!

As a lead up to the June 2nd provincial election, Grade 10 student Ethan Wahba organized a mock election today for students in Grades 5-12 with help of CIVIX, a Student Vote program and national charity dedicated to strengthening democracy.
CIVIX supplies Canadian schools with an authentic learning program that provide elementary and senior school students the chance to experience the voting process firsthand and develop the habits of active, engaged and informed citizens. The focus is to allow students to experience democracy firsthand and understand the platforms of all the political parties.

According to Ethan and Head of Social Sciences, Mr. Young, the goal of today's mock election was to engage students in our democracy and begin critical conversations in the classroom and beyond. We hope that this week's student-driven exercise, and the conversations that followed, helped to further empower our students to become active and informed citizens for generations to come.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
